KIDS ON HOLIDAY? Here are some ideas to keep that boredom at bay
Your kids might be on Easter vacay, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t entitled to a little bit of downtime this week. If you’re in Joburg, Hyde Park Corner has you covered these holidays with its PNA Kids Craft Corner.
Book your littlies in for R55 per one-hour slot, where they get their (supervised) craft on with a prepacked craft pack, giving you an hour to grab a cuppa or get some much-needed retail therapy in.
Each session is capped at 20 children per session to observe all the appropriate Covid protocols, which also means that booking is essential as space is limited. And the best part? All proceeds from the ticket sales will go to Rays of Hope, a Johannesburg-based NGO which manages several social outreach programmes in Alexandra township.
Bookings for the PNA Kids Craft Corner can be made via Webticket. There are three slots available per day from Tuesday, 6 April to Saturday, 10 April from 11am to 12pm, 1pm to 2pm and 3pm to 4pm.
For the bookworms
Celebrating its 70th birthday with a list of 70 Books to Read Before You Grow Up, Exclusive Books is also bringing it’s A-game these Easter holidays. If you’re committed to staying home, writer Amy Heydenrych will be doing an online children’s book reading this Friday, 9 April at 3pm. Log in to Zoom and have the littlies enjoy Amy’s rendition of Where the Wild Things Are and Oi! Frog.
If you’re keen to venture out, Exclusive Books Rosebank Mall is hosting a tea party and a live reading of The Tiger Who Came to Tea.
Or, if you’ve got older kids who happen to be fans of the popular chapter book series Diary of a Wimpy Kid, treat them to a live interactive Q&A at Exclusive Books Melrose Arch featuring none other than Greg Heffley, the protagonist of the series.
Fun for the whole family
Looking for a Covid-safe outing that’s fun for the whole family? Consider Eastgate Mall’s Drive-In on the Rooftop, running from 1 April to 1 May 2021.
Taking place on Eastgate Mall’s Rooftop at Entrance 12 the #IconicEastgate drive-in will feature two blockbuster movies every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 6pm and 8pm.
If you venture out to any of these activities this week, please let Team TGE know? We’d love some feedback from our readers. Or, if you’re staying safe at home, let us know what you did to keep the boredom at bay.
