THE JUNGLE BOOK HITS JOBURG! Here's why it's the perfect Easter outing with the kids
The People’s Theatre is bringing the magic of the jungle back to Johannesburg this Easter, with its special anniversary edition of Disney’s The Jungle Book.
Specially adapted from the classic 1967 animation, this live-action version of The Jungle Book brings back all your favourite characters – think Mowgli, Baloo, Bagheera, King Louis, Shere Khan and Kaa – as well as all the old familiar tunes that today’s parents grew up with.
People’s Theatre directors Keith Smith and Jill Girard will also be celebrating the theatre’s 20-year milestone with this production, and the duo says they’ll be pulling out all the stops to make this experience extra special for Joburg theatre-goers.
“The Jungle Book has always been a special production for both Keith and myself,” says Girard. Filled with warmth and laughter, this is a show about loyalty, kindness, friendship and courage. We can all relate to Mowgli and his adventure in the jungles in India.”
Having delighted children for more than a century, the story of The Jungle Book– originally based on Rudyard Kipling’s 1894 classic of the same name – will bring together young and old and, most importantly, will introduce young audiences to the magic of live theatre, hopefully encouraging a lifetime love of the art.
Previews of Disney’s The Jungle Book KIDS will get under way on 2 March at the Peoples Theatre, in Braamfontein, with the official opening taking place on Sunday, 8 March. The show will run until Sunday 26th April 2020.
Ticket prices are R145 for general public or R100 for members of the Peoples Theatre Kids Club. Group bookings for school groups are available at a significantly reduced rate of R85 per learner.
